Doing more…for less?

Budgets are tight in education generally, and early ed in particular, so we’ve been hearing a lot lately about doing more WITH less. But this particular line from the Final Regulations for the Race to the Top – Early Learning Challenge (RTT-ELC) Round 2–which is open only to high-scoring states who did not receive grants in the first round, caught my eye:

“Because the amount of available funds in FY 2012 is limited, this action establishes specific requirements that the five eligible applicants must meet in order to receive up to 50 percent of the funds they requested in their FY 2011 RTT-ELC applications. “

It sounds from that as if applicants will be required to do more in their applicants for less (50 percent!) than they had originally requested. I’m only just starting in one these, and there’s plenty more cover to come. Or, you can read through the final regulations here.
